The Advent’s brilliant “Sketches” recordings on Tresor were unmistakably essential in the progression of tough, intelligent techno music from the 1990’s into the new century. Cisco Ferreira challenged the dance music establishment from the underground and continues to deliver his blistering style well into the first decade, as demonstrated with gusto on his 2005 Tresor album “T.R.I.N.I.T.Y.” (Tresor.219). With its wall-of-sound penchant for no-nonsense, in-your-face techno music for purists, Ferreira naturally took this penchant into the most respected leagues of electronic music’s world of production and remixing, when he decided to deliver three tracks from his album into the hands of four international experts.
The first side of this four-track 12” EP sends a clear message: Swedish techno continues to be at the forefront of techno music production, and Adam Beyer’s phenomenal reputation exemplifies this with bravura. Beyer sends the deep, temple-bound surge of “Pagodas” into a dub-trenched and clenched steer towards his Drumcode structure and precision. Fans of Beyer can expect a wicked, breathing escape from his signature loop style. Another top Swedish artist, producer and remixer Pierre Jerksten aka Hertz takes Ferreira’s elektro mood on “Womans Scent” from a vocally-lead seduction groove to some down-to-the-bone dance floor treatment. The crisp, clean production grabs you by your own senses and echoes Hertz’s seamless work on his respected Q-Park label.
Side B features Frankfurt’s prodigy Chris Liebing who tackles the solid percussion of Ferreira’s homage to Tresor Club on “Tresor West”. Liebing, no stranger to Tresor Club fans, is also no stranger to exact, rigorous colliding of techno beats, distributing percussive layers throughout the remix and earning a thumbs up. Respect also goes out to Heinrich Muller, who Ferreira turned to for a second re-working of his track “Womans Scent” and its spicy nod to 80’s synth wave. Muller, who has released tracks on the Gigolo label, sends similar signals with his perky remix, injecting his distinct style of Detroit electro-minimalism to form a tight and unique treatment. Watch out: the aliens have hit the dancefloor.
